Bathtub Bash
Another Nanaimo Marine Festival has wrapped up, and the excitement is over for another year. This past weekend featured a variety of activities connected to the annual Bathtub Race and attracted many locals and visitors to our downtown area.
The Saturday parade was fun, Maffeo Sutton Park was filled with spectators, and the race itself was a challenging spectacle due to wind and rough seas. Congratulations to all participants, especially Trevor Short of Ladysmith who won the race to Winchelsea Island and back in a time of 1:38:13, while more than two dozen tubs failed to finish due to the conditions. Thanks and congratulations also to Commodore Greg Peacock and the Bathtub Society for organizing the weekend, as well as all the sponsors and volunteers who helped make it possible. Frank Ney, Bill McGuire, and the first Bathtub Race put Nanaimo on the map, and its great to see the tradition continue.
