Public Works Yard

It has been a long time coming, and is long overdue - but our city will at last be getting a new Public Works Yard, with constructions to hopefully get underway by fall of this year. The project has a total budget of $79.4 million, with the majority of that being funded through long-term borrowing. Provincial borrowing legislation which was updated last June allowed the borrowing to take place without electorate approval through referendum or alternative approval process, something which had blocked the project in past. The new yard will include new and expanded facilities at the Labieux Road site, replacing the current outdated and inadequate buildings. At the February 23, 2026, meeting, City Council approved increasing the budget for the project in the 2026-30 financial plan, with only Councillor Brown in opposition, saying he did not support the project as presented.
