Merit Awards

Nanaimo City Council presents certificates of congratulations and medallions to individuals, groups, teams, and clubs who have brought recognition on a Provincial, Western Canadian, National, or International level to our city by winning a championship. These are gold medal winners in two main categories: Sport Merit Awards and Arts/Culture Merit Awards. As a result of the pandemic, the awards had not been presented for 2020, 2021, or 2022. That was rectified at the Council meeting of Monday, July 24, 2023, and it was my absolute pleasure to act as emcee for the presentations. A total of 122 individuals were honoured from a variety of sport and cultural events.
