Candidate List

The deadline for filing candicacy papers is now past, and a final list of candidates for civic election positions is now determined. In Nanaimo, there are four candidates for Mayor, including incumbent Leonard Krog. For council, there are forty listed candidates, including seven incumbents (me being one of them!).

While it is encouraging to see people wanting to get involved in civic government, the large number of candidates unfortunately makes it more difficult for voters to make educated choices. It is important to research and find out about the candidates - to see what their experience and priorities are. Website such as this are one way, facebook for those who use it, and printed page election supplements such as the News Bulletin will put out early in October. I encourage all citizens to get out and vote - but to first do your homework and vote for credible candidates.
