Final Election Thoughts
Tomorrow, October 17, is voting day in our civic election. Many has already voted in advance polls, which shows a healthy interest in our City's future leadership.
I have been privileged to serve as Councillor for 12 years, and I have seen community priorities change. Eight years ago the focus was on "climate emergency", and many decisions were based on that priority. Of course we all want to protect our valued environment, but there needs to be a balance with development that will enhance our community and tax base. Today people seem to be more concerned with the economy, cost of living, and jobs. There will be some change on our Council, and I have stated previously that I think we need more of a business voice - and to be more business friendly. We need to try and speed up the permitting process and be open to new businesses.
There are some good incumbents on Council. There are also some strong new candidates - independent thinkers not bound by ideology. People who have previous experience on City councils who know the job. People who have practical business experience who can manage your money carefully. Please read candidate resumes and vote for candidates who show balance and common sense.
