Happy Labour Day

It was my pleasure today to attend the annual Nanaimo, Duncan and District Labour Council picnic at Transfer Beach, Ladysmith. I want to thank the Labour Council for holding this annual family event, and also for their endorsement of my election campaign. I am a former member of CUPE 606, and a long-time member of the BC Teachers' Federation, so I am a supporter of the union cause. I value the Council for fighting for worker rights, fair wages, safer work places, and a better future for local families. Organized labour is about helping workers, the backbone of our economy. It is easy to politicians to sit at a table and say they support workers. But they have to put their money where their mouth is and actually vote to support union workers such as nurses, teachers, steelworkers, truck drivers, forestry workers. I'm proud of my voting record, and to have earned the support of the Labour Council. Happy Labour Day everyone!
