Summer is coming to an end, schools re-open tomorrow, and Council meetings will get back to a regular schedule beginning next Monday. Meantime, a pair of congratulations to pass along related to this weekend. First to the Nanaimo Duncan & District Labour Council for once again hosting a Labour Day picnic at Ladysmith's Transfer Beach. Jenn MacPherson and her crew also do an excellent job of organizing the event, with food, entertainment, and information booths, all while celebrating the contributions of organized labour to our area. Second, credit to Nanaimo North Rotary Club for organizing and sponsoring a Family Fun Day held on Sunday at Maffeo Sutton Park. It was a new event with plenty of fun activities for kids, and hopefully it will become a regular tradition in our city.
