Harewood Turf Fields

Among recent decisions of Council was a split vote on whether or not to proceed with a project to build two artificial turf playing fields at Harewood Centennial Park.

Unfortunately, costs for the undertaking have significantly increased. But the concept has been strongly supported by the community, by the School Board (which has made a significant financial contribution), by local football and soccer organizations, and by SFN. For me, the decision to support was an easy one. These facilities will provide a huge opportunity for youth to embrace healthy living through teamwork and outdoor activity. The result will be long term benefit to our entire community. I was certainly pleased that the project was ultimately approved by Council, despite the contrary votes of Councillors Brown, Manly, and Geselbracht, who felt they could not support it.
